Imported wine refers to any wine that is brought in from outside the country. In America, the most common imports generally come from Europe, South America, or Australia. However, there are a variety of other countries that are well known for their winemaking.
The most well known imported wine in this country most often comes from Europe. Bordeaux, Cabernet, and Chardonnay are all world-famous regions of France that have become synonymous with quality wine. Similarly, Italy is well known for its Chianti and Barolo winemaking regions.
Many people believe that an imported wine will inevitably be of higher quality than a domestic wine; but this is not necessarily true. While Europeans have a much longer history of winemaking, many American winemakers have well-established reputations for quality. In fact, many domestic wines fare just as well as the Europeans at international wine competitions.
